Meditation as the shift from "I am my body" to "I am a soul", as I am learning it in Brahma Kumaris classes.
I started learning Rajyoga in October 2026, so I am at the very beginning. This page is what I understand so far, in my own words. It is not an official description. I am a student, not a teacher, and I do not speak for the Brahma Kumaris.
Raja means king. In the class I heard the idea of being the master of my own kingdom (swa-rajya-adhikari): the kingdom is my own mind, thoughts and habits, and the work is to be in control of them instead of being run by them. Note that "Raja Yoga" is also the name given to Patanjali's yoga in other books, which is a different thing (see Reading).
The first three lessons were short and simple:
In class I was told the way is made of four things:
Meditation, as I was taught, is the shift from body-consciousness (deh-abhimaan) to soul-consciousness. It is a change in how I see myself, more than a technique.
There is a daily spiritual class, which is knowledge, and meditation, which is yoga. People greet each other with "How are you?" and the answer is "I am well" or "I am happy". I have not been charged for any class I have attended so far.
If this interests you, learn it from a teacher in person. Start at brahmakumaris.com and look for a centre near you. Ask what the first session involves, and what, if anything, it costs.
The teaching also includes a view of time in great cycles. I am still learning that part and will write about it only when I understand it properly. I make no health claims, and I am not telling you what to believe.
