India destination

Madikeri

Madikeri · मडिकेरी · ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ

Madikeri is the principal hill town of Kodagu and a practical base for coffee estates, viewpoints, waterfalls and longer drives through Coorg. The town itself is compact; the wider district experience depends on road travel.

What to see

  • Raja's Seat — a garden and viewpoint best in clear morning or evening weather.
  • Madikeri Fort — a historic complex adapted across different periods; access may vary.
  • Omkareshwara Temple — a distinctive early-19th-century temple near the centre.
  • Abbey Falls — a popular excursion through plantation country; water flow is seasonal.
  • Coffee estates — choose a genuine guided estate visit rather than only a retail tasting.

Planning the visit

Two or three nights suit Madikeri and nearby Coorg routes. There is no railway station in town; road access from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Mangaluru is standard. October to March is comfortable, while monsoon is lush but wetter and more slippery.

Food and purchases

Coffee, spices and Kodagu products are common purchases. Buy from identified estates or producers where origin and roast date can be explained.
