Getting there and around
Bengaluru is a large, polycentric metropolis where airport transfer, railway terminal and neighbourhood choice can determine the success of the itinerary. Distances that appear modest can require substantial time in peak traffic, so group sights by corridor and verify the exact arrival terminal.
By air
Kempegowda International Airport lies well north of the traditional city centre. Airport buses, authorised taxis, app-based cabs and arranged transfers are the principal options. There is no operational direct airport Metro service at present; the airport line remains under construction, so do not plan around a future opening date. Allow a generous margin for the road journey, terminal procedures and peak-hour congestion.
By rail
KSR Bengaluru City Junction (SBC) at Majestic is the principal central station and connects directly with the Metro interchange area. Yesvantpur Junction (YPR) serves many long-distance trains on the north-western side. Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal Bengaluru (SMVB) at Baiyappanahalli serves selected long-distance services on the eastern side, while Bengaluru Cantonment (BNC) is convenient for some central and northern districts. Krishnarajapuram (KJM) and other suburban stations serve selected routes. Read the station code carefully because these terminals are far apart and are not interchangeable.
By road and bus
Intercity buses use Kempegowda Bus Station at Majestic, Shantinagar, Mysuru Road Satellite Bus Station, private boarding points and outer-city pickup zones. Confirm the exact terminal and operator landmark. Road access from Mysuru, Chennai, Hyderabad and other cities can be delayed by urban congestion on arrival.
Metro, buses and local movement
Namma Metro is the most predictable option on operational corridors and links several major districts, railway gateways and sightseeing areas. BMTC buses provide extensive coverage, but route complexity and traffic can be challenging for short visits. Autos and app cabs fill gaps. Cluster Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha and the central museums; group Basavanagudi and Lalbagh; treat Whitefield, Electronic City and outer institutions as separate journeys. Do not schedule repeated cross-city transfers in one day, and verify the last-mile distance from the nearest Metro station.
