Like a lotus

A flower connected to its whole family under the water and still not touched by it.

In class, the lotus came up as a picture of how to live. Under the water, the lotus is connected to its whole family, its roots and its stems. Above the water, it stands clear of the mud and the water that holds it.

So the lotus is connected and still detached. The picture is for those of us who are fully in our relationships, work and duties, and who would like not to be pulled under by them.

The question I wrote at the top of a fresh page is: how do we live like a lotus?

I am still thinking about it. It seems to have something to do with soul-consciousness (see I am a soul, not my body). I will write more when I have something true to say.
