Check and change

A small daily habit: notice what I say to myself, and choose words for what I want.

This is a practice from my class notes. It has two parts.

1. Check. Turn inward and look at what is going on, quietly, in myself. What am I thinking? What mood am I in?

2. Change. Replace it with a line that is true of the soul, and repeat it. The two I wrote down:

  • "I am a peaceful soul."
  • "I do not have to react."

Then there is the rule I wrote underneath: speak only what I want to create. If I want peace, I speak peace. If I want happiness, I speak happiness. The same goes for any of the seven values: knowledge, purity, happiness, peace, love, power and bliss.

This is a practice I was given in class, and I am a beginner at it. I will write about what I notice as I go.

If you want to learn this properly, learn it from a teacher in person. See Find a teacher.
