The Muong Hoa Valley's rice terraces are the reason most people come — cut into the hillsides by generations of Hmong and Dao farming communities, and at their most striking either just after planting (green) or just before harvest (gold).

Fansipan

At 3,147m, the highest peak in Indochina, reachable either by a multi-day trek or a cable car that cuts the climb to a short walk from the upper station — a genuinely useful option if time or fitness doesn't allow the full trek.

Where to Stay

Stayed at "Ms Hoàng Diệu's place" — a homestay that ended up being one of the real highlights of the hospitality on this whole leg of the trip.

Practical Tips

Sa Pa sits high enough that it's noticeably colder than the rest of the country — pack for it even on a route through tropical lowlands elsewhere.
Homestays with local Hmong or Dao families are widely considered a better way to experience the valley than a hotel base in the town itself.
