The Plain of Jars

Thousands of megalithic stone jars, some over 2,500 years old, scattered across the Xiangkhouang plateau in clusters — their original purpose is still debated by archaeologists, with the leading theory linking them to prehistoric burial practices. Several sites are open to visitors, each fenced along cleared paths, since the province remains one of the most heavily bombed areas on Earth from the Vietnam War era and unexploded ordnance is a real, ongoing risk outside marked zones.
