A working port city with a genuinely nice beach stretch (RK Beach), a submarine museum, and hill viewpoints (Kailasagiri) overlooking the harbor — more livable-city than tourist-trap, which is part of its appeal. A good base for Araku Valley too. Sandwiched between the Eastern Ghats and the Bay of Bengal, sometimes called the "Jewel of the East Coast."

• Cost: Mid-range city prices; museum/viewpoint entries are minor
