• Ordinary/Tourist Visa (Single Entry): for holidays, business, health treatment, studies, leisure, or similar purposes recognised by law — valid for a single entry not exceeding 90 days.
• Multiple Entry Visa: for travellers needing several visits within the visa's validity — confirmed directly from the Tanzania High Commission's own fee page, Indian citizens receive a specific rate for this category (see Fees below), valid for one year, with each individual stay capped at 90 days.
• Business Visa: for temporarily conducting business, trade, or professional assignments, not exceeding 90 days and non-extendable — requires an introductory letter from the relevant organisation.
• Transit Visa: for passing through Tanzania to a third destination, issued for a maximum of 7 days and non-extendable — this type is issued at the border/point of entry, not at the Embassy.

Where and how to apply

• Apply online (recommended) at the official portal: visa.immigration.go.tz — Tanzania Immigration Services' own guidelines explicitly recommend this route over visa on arrival.
• Visa on arrival is available at official entry points as a second option, but applicants with refugee status, stateless status, or falling under the Referral Visa category are not eligible for the on-arrival route and must apply online instead.
• Use only the official website — Tanzania's own guidelines specifically warn applicants to apply only through visa.immigration.go.tz and not through any other online links.

Eligibility and passport conditions

Your passport must have a validity of at least 6 months and at least one unused visa page at the time of application, per Tanzania Immigration Services' own guidelines. You must be able to show a return ticket upon arrival.

Application steps

1. Select the correct visa type and category during your online application — if unsure, Tanzania Immigration Services recommends contacting them by email or phone before applying, since an incorrectly selected category can lead to rejection.
2. Complete the online application form at visa.immigration.go.tz.
3. Upload required documents, including your passport bio-data page and supporting materials for your specific visa category.
4. Pay the applicable fee through the online portal.
5. Wait for review — your application may be internally reviewed, and you may be asked to attend an interview at your nearest Tanzanian Embassy or Consular Office in some cases.
6. Track your status through the online system and receive notification by email once your application is accepted or rejected.

Forms required

The entire eVisa application is completed online through the official portal — there is no separate paper form for standard applicants using this system.

Document checklist

Per the Tanzania High Commission New Delhi's own published requirements for the Ordinary/Tourist category: two recent passport-size photos, your flight itinerary, a passport valid for at least 6 months, and a signed visa application form. For the Business category, an additional introductory letter from the relevant organisation (in India or Tanzania) is required. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from a country with endemic yellow fever risk.

Fees

Confirmed directly and precisely from the Tanzania High Commission, New Delhi's own fee page:

• Ordinary/Tourist Visa — Indian citizens: USD 100 (multiple entry), valid one year, up to 90 days per entry.
• Ordinary/Tourist Visa — non-Indian citizens: USD 50 (single entry, 90 days), or USD 100 (double entry, 90 days each).
• Business Visa (single entry, 90 days): USD 250, for both Indian and non-Indian citizens.
• Transit Visa: USD 30, maximum 7 days, non-extendable, issued at the border.

Note that these India-specific rates are published by the High Commission for applications submitted there; the standalone online eVisa portal's own fee for a standard tourist eVisa is separately and widely reported by other sources as USD 50 — confirm which fee applies to your specific application channel before paying, since the High Commission's rate card and general eVisa portal figures are not identical. All visa fees are non-refundable, and cash is not accepted at the High Commission (checks/money orders only, with a EUR 16 additional processing fee for foreign cheques).

Processing information

Tanzania Immigration Services' own guidelines state applications are processed within 10 working days. Referral-category applicants are advised to submit at least two months before their travel date. Once submitted, applications cannot be further changed.

Common mistakes

• Applying through an unofficial website rather than visa.immigration.go.tz, which Tanzania Immigration Services explicitly warns against.
• Selecting the wrong visa type or category without seeking guidance first — this can lead to rejection.
• Assuming the High Commission's India-specific multiple-entry rate is the same as the standard online eVisa fee — confirm which applies to your application channel.
• Not carrying a yellow fever certificate when arriving from an endemic-risk country.
