🇨🇱 Chile Visa Guide for Indian Passport Holders

Indian passport holders need a visa to visit Chile for tourism or business — unless you hold a valid US visa of any type (including a US Green Card, but excluding a Type C transit visa) with at least 6 months' validity remaining at the time of your arrival in Chile, in which case the Embassy of Chile's own website confirms you are exempt from needing a separate Chilean visa, for stays up to 90 days. • Exempt entry (if eligible): Indian nationals holding any valid US visa (except Type C transit) or a US Green Card, with 6+ months' remaining validity, can enter Chile visa-free for up to 90 days, provided they can show sufficient financial support for their stay.
• Standard consular tourist visa (Visa Simple/Múltiple): for Indian passport holders without a qualifying US document, applied for through the Chilean Consular Section covering your jurisdiction.

Confirmed directly from the Embassy of Chile's own page — this is important to get right before applying:

• New Delhi Consular Section covers: Bangladesh, Nepal, and residents of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
• Consulate General in Mumbai covers everyone else: all other Indian states/territories, plus Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Afghanistan.

A visa is required unless you qualify for the US-document exemption described above.

Where and how to apply

• Complete your application through the Sistema de Atención Consular (SAC), Chile's online consular services platform, selecting the Chilean consulate matching your jurisdiction (New Delhi or Mumbai).
• Note: Chilean consulates no longer accept residence-visa applications — since 12 February 2022, these are handled instead by Chile's own Servicio Nacional de Migraciones directly. This page covers only short-stay (under 90 days) tourist/business visas.

Per the Chilean government's own guidance, you must have a valid passport or identity document covering your entire intended stay, and be able to demonstrate sufficient financial means to travel and support yourself during your visit.

Application steps

1. Check whether you qualify for the US-document exemption before applying separately.
2. If you don't qualify, determine your correct jurisdiction (New Delhi or Mumbai) based on your place of residence.
3. Complete the application form through the SAC online platform, explaining your reason for travel and intended length of stay.
4. Upload a colour photo (white background, passport-size, full face, no accessories like glasses, headscarves, or hats).
5. Upload a copy of your passport's personalisation page.
6. Provide evidence of your own financial means (which can be supplemented by an inviting person's finances, under specific conditions).
7. Wait for processing — Chile's own guidance states this can take several weeks, up to 6 months.

The SAC online application form is the core document — completed through Chile's Consular Services online platform.

Document checklist

Per the Chilean government's own published requirements: your valid passport or identity document (covering your full intended stay), evidence of sufficient economic means (your own, potentially supplemented by an inviting party's), a letter of invitation from a person or company in Chile (if applicable), and hotel reservations if you don't have a contact person in Chile. If applying from a country other than your own nationality, you must also show proof of your residence or migratory status there.

Photo and biometric requirements

A colour photo with a white background, passport-size (5cm × 5cm), full face, without accessories such as glasses, headscarves, or hats, is required as part of your online application.

Fees

We were not able to independently confirm the exact current tourist visa fee from the primary chile.gob.cl or consulado.gob.cl pages retrieved during this review. Confirm the current fee directly on the SAC platform or with your Chilean consulate before applying, since fee schedules can vary and the review of primary pages did not yield one clear, dated figure.

Processing information

Per the Chilean government's own guidance, visa processing "takes several weeks, and can take up to 6 months" — apply well in advance of your intended travel date. Note that meeting the stated requirements does not guarantee the visa will be granted, and additional documents may be requested during processing.

Common mistakes

• Assuming a US visa automatically exempts you without checking that it's not specifically a Type C transit visa, and that it has at least 6 months' remaining validity.
• Applying through the wrong jurisdiction (New Delhi vs. Mumbai) for your state of residence.
• Assuming you can apply for a residence visa at a Chilean consulate — this process moved to Chile's Servicio Nacional de Migraciones in February 2022.
• Underestimating processing time, which can extend up to 6 months in some cases.
