Arrangement puzzles are one of the most consistently appearing question types within LRDI, as noted in CAT Syllabus. They also reward a very learnable skill: disciplined notation. Two candidates with similar logical ability can perform very differently here based purely on how systematically they track information as clues are processed.

Arrangement puzzles are rarely solved by a single flash of insight. They are solved by processing clues one at a time, updating a grid or diagram as you go, and only reaching the final answer once enough clues have narrowed the possibilities. A candidate solving this in their head, without writing anything down, will frequently lose track of an earlier deduction and have to restart. A candidate using a simple grid notation from the start rarely needs to restart at all.
Reading all the clues once, trying to hold the whole puzzle in memory, and only then starting to write things down. This almost always requires re-reading the clues a second time. A better sequence is to start the grid immediately and update it clue by clue as you read.
